    1938 Mauser bayonet

    Hi guys,

Did they ever make a bayonet for the 1938 S/27 Mauser with S/27, stamped in it?
I guess there is no sense looking if they never made any. (LOL)

    Thanks

    Question

Very few of the rifle makers also made bayonets.
The proper bayonet for your rifle would be one dated the year before, same year or maby the year after. That is presuming that nothing happened to that bayonet and it was not replaced with one dated 1943 or what ever.

Mauser did not produce bayonets during the 1933-45 period. Most bayonet makers stopped using the Number Code (Zahlencode) represented by S/27 (S=small arms; 27 = Mauser) after Hitler renouced the Treaty of Versailles in 1936, opting instead for their commercial trademarks. A 1938-dated bayonet will have the maker firm's name (or an abbreviation of it). In 1940, a Letter Code System was instituted (e.g., asw = E & F Horster). Bayonet makers changed over to the Letter Codes in 1940-41 as the codes were issued out to arms makers by the government.
