He said that when he visited the first thing another Aust and NZicon visitor suggested that they go simply as visitors and make little mention of their time there as soldiers. On that basis you'll be viewed as tourists with money to spend as opposed to nostalgic returnees - or whatever the word is. My son went two years ago during one of his seemingly never ending gap years and there it was, stamped in his passport, the dreaded and much mortared Tan Son Nuht air base visitors entry stamp! I bet there's still tons of unexploded VC and NVA ordnance there
I remember the state of Tan Son Nuht was still in when I first went in the early 1990's, the terminal was hanging and vertually unchanged since the 1960's.

Long dissused C130's and Huey's still sat about in dispersals and the old Military main entrances to the sprawling airbase were still full of bullet holes...

Unexploded ordenance is still an issue, but far less so than it was then, extensive efforts have been made to clean things up.

You really had to watch where you were walking in some overgown areas, especially in places like Hue.

If any veterans would like to go, they really don't need to be cautious about mentioning it, the reality today is no one there is bothered about the war (the vast majority anyway) ... As long as you have US dollers in your pocket your very welcome indeed!
