Small correction to Aussie 48, thread 6. Our Arms Drill was identical to Aust and NZ Arms drill. Been there and done it. If you were tall, then your right hand went ABOVE the foresight block when at attention. If you were a shortarse 5' 10" like me, your hand went BELOW the f/s protector - with right finger and thumb astride the gas regulator. And the rear of the COVER, foresight (thanks for the correct description KtK) had a bit of a sharp edge.
Nope....., I never saw one of those 'jungle' deflectors either. I spent 3 years there and never saw or heard of one! One problem that did become apparent very quickly was with our new AR15's in 1967, They had an open flute flash eliminator that really got jambed up so they were either remover for operations and those undergoing Field workshop repair (at 2 Inf or 13 Inf workshop?) had a ring welded onto the 3 prongs to solve the problem. But doing so made the barrel ring!

Now those we had. They were only used by the rifle team for keeping the world from seeing their front sights when they weren't using them.

I guess large numbers of them must have been surped, I have revised my number to 12, just like the mag loaders, useless...
Make sure you haven't got any jungle deflectors in among them Brian!
So, were the deflectors actually issued or just trialed in small numbers?

I wish there were one or two of the jungle deflectors just for collector purposes. The ones I have cover the front sight assembly completely. I really wouldn't want to snap one of those things on and mar the paint job anyhow!

If someone was skilled enough they might be able to make a Deflector using a Foresight Cover. Basically they are the same except for the foresight blade cover.
I've been searching for a Deflector for 30+ years without much luck. I'm also looking for the foresight cover (Plastic) the Canadian's made..... hint, hint, all you Canadian viewers
