It would be simple to convert a f/s cover into a deflector as shown (thread 20, thanks KtK). The problem is the two retaining clips at the rear. They would have to be tig welded on a some point and shaped accordingly. Difficult to hide the join though........

I bet that in the past, some storeman has had a hundred of the brush guards issued to him in error for f/s covers and wondered '.....what is all this crxx...... I ordered f/s guards....' and thrown them straight in the bin! I never ever saw those things or even heard of them. And I was where they were supposedly made to be used!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I remember them well, I'll keep my eyes open for one from here in. It will appear in a junk box at a gun show...for about nothing value. Most wouldn't know what it is.

We just carried the rifle with our left hand forward and over the gas plug and two fingers above, two below the barrel. This also gave control of the front of the rifle until shooting...until it was hot.

Right, i'm on to it, with those excellent pictures and 12 to mess about with to get it right, its a possibility now! If I can get one or two something close the next time I am in the workshop, I will post it to you Kev!

Do I detect a bit of green paint on that example ??

An ingenious solution still looking for a problem. No wonder nobody ever saw it!

I'll look and see if I have any of the little Canadianicon plastic sight covers too. I had some years ago but they may well be gone. I don't even remember keeping one for myself.

Oh dear, would someone like to tell the good folks at IMA that they are barking up the wrong tree, hope they didn't pay much for them!

That would great guys if you are able to track down the plastic covers, it would be another thing I could tick off the wanted list.

There's no point in saying anything to IMA. If you post something helpful, but contradicts what they say in the Reviews section they delete it.

They would never listen, they're the experts, remember? Like trying to correct a museum curator.
