1904 Spanish produced blank ammuntion????

Local flea market, guy had a 10 pack in original paper wrapper with string.

Spanish manufacture blanks with probably wooden bullets. Said 8mm and then a very weird number that matched nothing military that I'm aware of and failed to get any hits on a search. It appears to be 8mm Lebel ammo. It was rimmed. Now I could see very little through the torn paper so couldn't read a head stamp.

If the guy was asking $10 I probably would have bought it just for the mystery but he wanted $25.

Did Spanish companies make Lebel ammunition in the early 1900's?

It was more likely Portuguese 8x56R (or the 8x60R version) Guedes ammunition. Fairly common, not worth $25/pack.

That make sense and I had thought of that since I just bought one of the two weeks ago but just too hard to tell from the little bit I could see. They are similar looking cartridges. These however were round nose, Lebel should have been pointed.

I have some of that 8x60R ammo that was made in Chile. Headstamps range from 1915-1924. Wrapped in cardboard boxes with a string around them. Found them at a gunshow about 35 years ago. I guess the seller didn't know what they were, he had a sign with a question mark on them and wanted $1.50 a box. I got all 8 boxes he had for $10. I used them in my M1886 Kropatschek short rifle made in 1889. They did go bang back in the '80s but there were several rounds with cracked necks among them. I saved all the brass and the 2 best completely sealed boxes for my collection. - Bill

The 3 pictured above are 8x56R Mannlicher cartridges, not the 8x56/60R Guedes rounds that are the subject of this thread. Similar nomenclature...very different cartridges.
