I remember the first one that I ever saw on the ground, at the Naval dockyard at Sembawang(?) in Singapore in 1968 or 69 and had flown in from a US Navy carrier. It looked huge! And to think that we were still being ferried about in old Whirlwinds and the UK 'version' of the chinook, the belvedere............ Archaic or what!

I thought that it was made by Westland but according to Wikipedia it was made by Bristol.

I think Bristol evolved in to Westland Helicopters along with a number of other manufacturers which probably means Westlands became the Eng Authority.

I seem to recall that the one which is at Hendon being labeled up as being made by Westland? It's interesting to read that it has inter-rotating rotors, as does the Chinook.
