    Found a Spanish FR8

So I bought it. Couldn't resist adding such a unique looking rifle to my formerly Mauser-less collection. I don't know much about Mausers, but the more I researched the FR8, the more I had to have it.

    Time for pics.

The stock has a few minor dings in it, but the bore is bright and shiny.

It came with the sling and cleaning kit, but no bayonet, so I picked up a bayo fairly locally, along with a battle pack of NATO ammo.

After I bought it, I noticed this bayonet sheath didn't come with those strings tied to the bottom like the ones I see for sale on gunbroker. What are those strings made of, and what is their purpose?

The tie down on my bayonet scabbard looks like a black flat boot lace if that helps, purpose who knows would be useless to tie down on your leg one would imagine.

I've always been fascinated by those guns. I suspect with that ammo it will shoot quite well, the Austrian Hirtenberger is top quality.

I got my FR-8 at a yard sale believe it or not. Like new. Out in the middle of nowhere.

    Found a Spanish FR8.......

    Nice rifle.......

I love the FR-8 and have three as well as a FR-7. It's neat to have a ready made sporter that is actually a military issue rifle.

The FR-8s were re-purposed M43s that were built on Model 98 actions. (see picture below)
The FR-7s were model 95s and as a result should be slightly downloaded to be safe.

I certainly do not wish to start the .308 vs 7.62x51 debate as that has been covered ad nauseam through out the interwebs.
