    Theodore Roosevelt Commemorative Match

Just a few weeks away, July 25, 2017 will be the CMPicon sponsored Theodore Roosevelt Commemorative Match at Camp Perry, Ohio. Krags vs 03 Springfields. Being in the middle of the week, I don't expect a whole lot of participants, but wish to extend and invitation to any Kragicon shooter who can make the trip. We gotta show those 03s who their dad is! Here's how it went for me and Paul Steinmeyer last year. Note the smooth reload with the Parashooter designed charger that Paul makes. I'm posting here, which I don't often do, because Culvericon's is having a problem right now. Hope to see some of you there joining in the fun!

The Krag and Springfield 1903 Matches

During the last few years of Kragicon and Springfield 1903 matches, the Thomas "pencil point" custom match bullet was used (and continued to about 1916-17)Attachment 85743

I would love to run across a batch of those 172gr pencil points to try out. I've used the Hornady 123gr .310 V max in my .310 groove diameter Kragicon and got some good results at 100yds. Their shape is close to the pencil point, and they feed very good in my 92/96 rifles. The lower weight doesn't seem to cut it in the wind of Camp Perry though. They weren't bad, just not as good as I think I was holding. Could be my deteriorating right vision has something to do with that.

The number of participants was up from last year, with more Krags on the firing line including one guy shooting a 99 carbine with sling swivels. Lots of fun meeting folks from the KCA forum the night before. Lake Erie perch is not the perch I remember getting from cleaner waters though. The Lake Erie perch had a strong fishy flavor, more like eating catfish! Not at all like the perch I've got from cleaner inland waters. My score was terrible! I dropped from a 250 in 2016 to a 197 this year. I've got a vision problem from undiagnosed onchocerciasis. It's undiagnosed because they aren't supposed to exist here! However, I have found research showing they are in ungulates as far north as the 66th parallel! That includes most of Canadaicon! Don't skin barehanded!
