    No.2 MkI** rebuild?

Here's something interesting. I took the time to open it up and inspect it and found the serial numbers on the frame and side plate to completely different than the rest of the gun. Is it safe to assume this some type of armorer rebuild? The font on the frame is slightly different but it was defiantly fine prior to refinishing.

The numbers inside the frame are what we call 'pairing numbers' and have no relation to the gun serial number - except that due to the production line method of assembly, they can sometimes be quite close - within a couple of thousand....... These are put in/on the frame and side plate during assembly at the factory because these two parts are are made as a matched set, never to be parted. And if they are separated during a big Base workshop programme, then the same side plate goes back to the same frame. The holes for the axis pins and screws are drilled and........ I won't go on but they can never be mixed

Awesome, thanks so much. I was wondering but it just seemed to be to close to a serial number and caught my attention.
