Do you have the highest recorded L39 serial number? I think the highest recorded by Colin in Fultons was about 1214 ish from memory.

    No pressure!

    Rod,

Rifle A390 is recorded as having a completion date of 16th February 1970, on completion it was shipped to store at Donnington. Interestingly there is a small hand written annotation in the records next to your serial number which reads "Rework out 1-7-71".

Rifle R39814 was part of batch number 27 which consisted of 18 rifles. Records show a conversion date of 23rd September 1971, on completion it was shipped to store at Donnington.

Rifle 486 is recorded as being shipped to Northern Ireland Police (RUC) on the 12th March 1981.

    Cheers,
    Simon.

    Thanks Simon, good work indeed!

I was given additional information regarding my two that they were both sent to RAF units, I think 1025 was RAF Barry (Glamorgan) and the other I can't remember, although I think I have the answer at home somewhere on a scrap of paper.

    Thanks again.
    Mick

Simon, thanks for the information on my rifles.

On the L39A1 "A390" there is a 2' by 3' "waxed" paper tag that is an some type of ID label. It reads:

    IDENTIFICATION LABEL A.F.G. 8061

    SECT..B1.. PART No.... 1005-99-962-3084...
    DESIGNATION...RIFLE, SNIPER.....
    TARGET MATCH

    QTY. 2 T/E
    CONTROL No. ...YRO6620.. DRS No...301825..

It has "UNISSUED" stamp of it and a "T" in a red circle. The tag was preprinted for fill in and most of above information was hand printed in ink. The "SNIPER" on the tag was crossed thru and "MATCH TARGET" written below it. Was this a repair or stocking tag?

    Thanks again

    Rod
