    GeeRam,
To my knowledge not many of theirs were crushed they are still out there.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. A firearms officer in Wiltshire told me that most of the Enforcers he dealt with ended up in Devon & Cornwall for training purposes.

As an aside to that when they were eventually destroyed the furniture, glass and magazines were saved and sold off. This snippet came from a Devon RFD who got some of the furniture and I believe a couple of scopes.

He must have his Forces mixed up. I know where there are eight held by private individuals so not sure whether he has the right force. In fact in addition to that Arundel Guns sold a Met rifle recently.
Highwood Classic Arms also sold two recently 89 and 295.

The Met S019 bought a block in the 020+ in the day and these are definitely out there and not destroyed.
The Home Office "Guidance" came out officially in 2008 but many forces were already destroying them earlier than that and that is SOP today.......sadly crush them and sell off the scopes, as I was lucky to have acquired 10 S&B last year

I was referring to what Wiltshire Constabulary had, I know of three out there one of which is a LERA club rifle (No.682) the other two are owned by people I have shot with over the years.

Looks like I'm going to have to put in for a 7.62 variation then just in case an ex-Met one turns up........I have a particular personal connection to the early days of what was then D11 and the first Enforcers (and the Mets use of those loaned surplus 4T's from the MOD prior to the introduction of the Enforcers)

    Mick,
No worries, only reason I knew about Devon & Cornwall because the "All Police Marksman Courses" were all run by them, definately never saw or heard that one there anyway.

    Geeram,
Always worth doing that if you want one, but be prepared for a shock in price rise!!

    Roy,
This is really Simon's area of expertise who can perhaps provide more information, but to assist in the simplest terms at this stage, it was a Northants Police rifle issued on the 4th December 1974
