    Rear Sight Problem ?

Is there a problem here with this Dovetail ? I just happen to be looking at a Carbine for sale and Zoomed in and saw this. To me it looks like something is wrong after seeing the couple I keep here, but something doesn't look right. It looks to be on pretty good but don't know if this is a problem. Maybe there's nothing wrong with it at all.

Hard to tell from the picture. Doesn't get big enough for my geezer eyes. Looks like there might be some corrosion though. Might be a shim made out of steel or epoxy. Very much a WHAG though.
    Spelling and Grammar count!

If it's the pic I think, it looked like a shim from something white. Like paper but it couldn't be...
    Regards, Jim

Looks to me like a dent on the end of the dovetail. Could also be an incorrect staking. Could be combat damage or rough handling. I wouldn't think it would amount to much if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing.

There's were no pictures from angles to tell if there was a Stake Mark. The guy said the Sight is on pretty tight. I see some type of epoxy on the far side. I also haven't received anymore pictures of it since I showed him this. I also had to keep cropping it to get it to expand to see what I thought was a gap. It looks like it was repaired or maybe Its been like this and he didnt know. I'm hoping to get more pictures of it.

one carbine I had, a STD PRO, i removed the rear sight (correct direction, left to right). One of the adjustable sight staking was so deep when the sight came off a corner of the dovetail did also. Hard to tell if that is what is going on in the above picture. Also wonder if that sight was pushed to the left to remove instead of the right and did a little damage? Again pic is not clear enough to be sure of what is going on, if anything, could be a clump of grease.

    INTex,
Cali might have hit on something here, site may have been pushed off the wrong direction.
Didn't you have a rear site walking on you before? Seems I remember that (If it was you?)

Slightly OT, but similar, my son and I were shooting 5 shot groups with a NPM I have. I believe when the original flip was removed it was pushed off the wrong way. The Adj site is heavily staked. Anyway He'd shoot five, we'd check the hits, then i'd shoot 5 to compare. I do this a lot when adj sites.
So he fires 5 hitting in the center then hand to me and I'd shoot 5, my shots are walking right off center. So I adjust, then he again shoots 5 hitting center, hands back to me and again after I shoot 5 they walk off to the right. He's grinning as if he's out shooting the ole man. Again I start to wind the windage back over, when the sight pulls off in to my hand.
I can still hear him laughing.
At home I degreased the site and dovetails. Took it back to the range with him and centered the ap. When shooting straight, I penciled the position on both sides. Back at home a drop of Blue loc-tite on each side under the base. Has stayed tight, a favorite shooter, and keeps things fair now.

Punch stake marks on top right and bottom right.

Anyone have a TRIMBLE TN stock that is marked this size?

Is the Recoil plate fit like this?

Seller says so, and barrel shows it had a Bayo band, but no sign of bayo use on this stock:

Look at the overall wear on the metal and buttplate. Then compare to the wear on the stock. Not a nick or scratch on the stock.

Do you think this is a real WWII issue stock? I have my doubts.

I don't have a TN stock, but we just saw the opposite gap on that UN-QUALITY a couple weeks ago. Wonder if it was from the same seller? - Bob
