Whilst on holiday I have been mulling over the possibility of buying another AR15, ones been missing from my cabinet for far to long.

LDT in Luxembourg apparently make very good AR's

Anyone have any experience of them?

My interest would be the A4 build, they apparently have a beefed up barrel (somthing akin to the old AR15 HBAR I think).

It fits with my standard remit of don't buy anything you can't fit a bayonet on and has a bonus of readily available .22 LR conversion kits.

How do 20" barrels with 1 in 9 twist handle .22 LR guys?

Back in the early 1990's some upper Colt Model 606 HBAR's were imported from Canada into the USA, only the uppers were allowed as the lowers were selective fire

I was able to purchase a Colt 606 upper from a dealer, this was the first heavy barrel Colt and came with the 1 in 12 twist. Mine is the early variation without the forward assist as both the Colt 606A and 606B had the forward assist. These Colt 606 uppers used a white plastic type buffer too.

Accuracy at 100 yards is not much different than the standard issue barrel. I have used the 22 rim fire conversion with the standard barrel with 1 in 12 twist, not bad but a rim fire barrel would be a lot better.Attachment 85980Attachment 85981Attachment 85982Attachment 85983

I agree, the 9" twist isn't much different from the 7 or 12. I've used conversions in all of them and the accuracy is fine. I don't know where the info came from that's in "The Black Rifle" showing stripped bullets fro the 7" twist. I used a conversion in those back in the '80's and there was excellent accuracy. 9" will be even easier on bullets. Yes, a full time .22 barrel is better because it's the right twist and diameter. A full dedicated upper is simple to build and will eventually show it's value. Then you'll end up with a lower so you don't get the sandy fouling inside your 5.56 rifle...it's gritty and unpleasant.

I completely see your point Jim re the dedicated AR, it's just limited cabinet space and the "Minister of Finance" won't understand why two AR's are needed!
