LE No 9 rear sight question
Can somebody tell me what rear sight was fitted to an LE No9 when issued? Was it the standard .303 sight or was it a specially calibrated .22 sight.
Thanks
Eddie

According to Skennerton, the rear sight was the standard #4Mk1 rear sight graduated to 1,300 yds but had a 25 yd mark on the left side indicated by "25YDS".

I seem to think that the line across the left side of the leaf and slide to indicate 25 YDS was 200+ 4 clicks. Same as the No7

Thanks Guys
My challenge is this. My No 9 (which I haven't got my hands on at this moment) has been "modified" by drilling out and tapping the aperture in order to fit a PH eyepiece. But I would like to use a PH 8/53 in order to get some windage adjustment. I also want to shoot in "Service Rifle" events so need a bog standard sight.
Is to possible to disassemble the sight and replace the bit with the aperture? And if so - how?
Or am I going to have to fit a standard sight leaf?
Or ...?

Yep....., ignore my last..... Copy Terrylee's sight. It was 400+ 4 clicks - or thereabouts to get the benefit of the standard foresights. Stripping the backsight is SIMPLE. But putting it back together is a bit of a chore. We used to assemble them in a large plastic bag with a hand hole at each end so when the ball flies out - as it WILL - you find it in the bag. Big dollop of grease and all that. PLenty of other tips scattered about the forum. The REAL clever arses used to do it clamped in the vice and do it right first time, every time.

For what it's worth, if you need to see the box for the sight, or a close up of it and the 25 yard sight, I can get those for you.

On my No.9 the 25 yard line is 3 clicks up from 400 yard mark.

Thanks everybody that's all very helpful indeed.
So in summery:
Both the scale and the slide are modified on the No9 sight
The aperture on mine has been bored out and tapped to allow a PH eyepiece to be fitted. It is thus too large to use in Service Rifle shoots.
Because the aperture is massively oversized I can't use the PH8/53.
The only way I can return it to the authentic state is to find a No9 sight - and I assume that's akin to finding the true cross. Or is it?
So I will have to replace the butchered No9 sight with a stock No4 sight? I can then shoot in Service Rifle events and use the 8/53.
Any other suggestions?

Re your 2nd to last para. No....... If the actual 2 - 13 leaf hasn't been butcher you can just replace the slide - as you asked in thread 4 and answered in thread 6. Better still, just get yourself a bog standard No8 rifle sight that's a direct fit AND will probably be zeroed with the foresight that you already have. Mine was.
