    Thanks Peter
I am sitting with a leaf/slide in front of me and I am damned if i can see how it comes apart. But in any case no matter what i do it will not be the real thing since I cannot replicate the No9 markings accurately.

But I will go ahead and fit a No8 leaf and slide as suggested. I suspect the foresight zero will not be correct as the blade is currently pushed as far as it can go to the left, which might mean the aperture was inaccurately drilled out when the PH eyepiece was fitted. However that holds no terrors for me as I still have my notebook and précis from the CCF Cadet Armourer's course I did in 1962/3ish at some barracks near Bovington - Allenby Barracks would that be?

    Eddie

Funnily enough having made the decision there was on on eBay with a reasonable BIN! So that's decided.
