    Longest Description Ever ?

I believe I just read the longest description ever put up for a WRA on GB. I Read the whole thing and was expecting a diamond with a BIN option of $2995.00. While reading I barely noted:

... " the nose of the stock, just forward of the band spring, apparently broke at some point and was glued back on. The break was clean and it is impossible to notice when assembled and does not affect the structure of the stock itself. "

"The Barrel Band is the correct unmarked Winchester Type II that retains 80% of its original blued finish that exhibits considerable wear and scratches as well as areas of old corrosion."

As I trolled thru the 241 pictures thought came to mind besides its wear, that this carbine has that 'stored in the basement look'. Still thinking it had possibilities... until I seen the pictures of the Nose of the stock and Barrel band

You can look for yourself here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/671736903

You'll see that's no break on the stock's nose, it's been cut.
Why would anyone cut it, I just don't understand ?

I looked through those pictures a few days ago and figured they had replaced a damaged "nose" with a better one. Now I see that it's a perfect match - must be the same one they cut off! - Bob

    LMAO,
    M1A1icon,
    Are you ever serious ?
Look how clean that cut is ?
I followed 'Trim Carpenters' for years that couldn't make a miter cut fit that tight.

Guess I should ease up.... Per the seller: It isn't structural and can't be seen with this sweet barrel band installed.

It's the same stock nose, you can see the marks continued by the woodshaping machine when it was made. Can't imagine why it was cut though, cosmetic? Someone trying to civilianize this stock?

Duffle-cut for a very small duffle bag?

Seriously, that's the only reason I can think of - shortening the stock to facilitate a transport of possibly dubious legality. For instance, by squeezing it diagonally into airline hand luggage?

That was my first thought too, then I realized he's admitting to a T2 band and since there's no difference in the band print on the stock nose between a T2 and a T3, there's no point in what he did in respect to band footprint. So, I'm just as baffled as everyone else as to why they cut the nose off, then glued it back on. Frank could probably take it back off and re-attach it so you would have to really look to see it. As it is it looks like a good whack would knock it off.

    Interesting T-2 Barrel Band

Never seen a T-2 band with a hole centered on the top and no apparent weld scars. I have a few and have seen others -- none look like this one. Books show all T-2 bands with four weld scars that differ in shape and location by which maker used them. No view of the front of the band. Screw looks different and there are no visible spot welds on the tension plate. Has anyone seen another one like the one on this Winchester?

    Just glued.

    I44,
If they had set some dowels or threaded brass pins, it would at least have some lateral strength.

Very much like my left leg, shattered in a car accident, best they could count 29 fragmented pieces. Spent 2 years with 12, 7" steel plates, 70+ screws and 13 pins attached to the side. 1 week after being cleared for full weight bearing it crumbled. Another year, finally finding the right Orthopedic who ran rods inside the bone from hip to upper knee, lower knee to ankle joint. Bone fusions (sp?) and bone grafted from my hip had me up and back to work in 8 weeks.

Perfect example of repairs are structurally stronger when ran inside instead of attached to the side.

    Hello Rio,
    It's a cheap repro.
About $15, I bought one to use on a my little crippled buddy's grandsons shotgun to rig a temp sling on. IIRC it was a .410, maybe .28 gage.

    Cheers
