Early Standard Vanguard

I thought that this photograph maybe of interest to members which I came across over the weekend of an early Standard Vanguard of around 1950 vintage. The picture is believed to have been taken in Essex in the early 1950s outside a temporary wartime military camp. The Vanguard copied the American style of bodywork and was intended to appeal to the North American market at a time when Britain was "all out for exports". The Standard Vanguard was also used in large numbers by the U.K. military as a Staff car.

It is believed that the name Vanguard was "borrowed" from HMS Vanguard which was commissioned into the Royal Navy at around or just before the first Vanguard cars went on on sale. HMS Vanguard was the last true battleship built for the Royal Navy and was a fine ship but sadly had a relative short career.

It's a long shot, but does anyone recognise the precise location, most likely near Clacton on Sea Essex?

Our village baker had a Standard Vanguard. He used to bring to my Father's garage in the 70's when he had a problem or two. Quite a solid old car really; and not very common even back then.
The car club badge may help with finding the location.

The location could be the transit camp at Harwich on the Essex coast or it could be a similar camp closer to Clacton on Sea. At the time that the picture was taken Harwich transit camp had been taken over by the local council, I believe, for providing basic housing.
