    I assume that major parts of a gun for sale means that the previous owner had a significant problem, or he would have used the parts to build a rifle himself.

    You didn't use the word "bolt". I infer that, by barreled action, you mean they have bolts. Without checking the head space, you don't even know if what you have is safe. Getting it evaluated by a gunsmith should be the first thing you do.
