Need quick help on potential buy, unit marking question

Well, I married a Canadianicon. So the hunt for a Canadian rifle has begun and we both like the Ross. I found one that has the US markings as well, which is extra neat for us since just like my Wife, the rifle was born in Quebec and brought to the US.

I would like the decypher the 5/11 marking however. The rifle is clean of unit markings other than this. What story is it telling? Any help is appreciated.

It appears to be a complete military rifle with hood and all, minus the rear most sling swivel. Approx 70% condition.

The 5/11 is 5th month of 1911. Generally, the date was used in conjunction with unit markings to denote when, and to which unit and/or branch of service the rifle was issued.

Yours appears to be missing the unit marking, unless it's just out of the image...

I believe it's missing the unit marking (I'm just going off the sellers photos). Would this be by accident or does it mean the rifle wasn't issued down to the regimental level? It's weird it has a date though!
