17-9-14 Garand Picture of the Day - Shipboard Garands

This rifle rack held M-1 Garandicon rifles, padlocks for security. These were the standard weapons of a ship's Marine Detachment. The ship's armory (located further below deck) also contained M-1 Carbines, Browning automatic rifles, Thompson sub-machine guns, M-97 riot shoguns, and Browning air cooled machine guns, all of which were available to the Marines on short notice.

Not Brass fittings. Some sort of brass colored labels. Note the irregular horizontal lineup up of what appears to be "brass fittings"

OK, how do the padlocks provide security?

The tags have info on them. The locks are attached to chains that you can just see at the back of the small of the stock group. The links run up the other side of the rifle to the trigger guard. The forged trigger guards have a circle at the rear they can run a lock through.

Do they have ready use weapons available that are not locked there would be a system for their security of course. But you really do not want to be in Peter's words faffing about with a lock if you need a weapon.
Anyway they would be toast before it got to that stage anyway as the CIWS system would fry the little beggars hopefully before they could do damage, after the Cole incident did they revamp the security by manning weapons when in congested areas! Just asking.

On a U.S. ship you can't have weapons lying about. Simply too many variables wandering about...the sidearms are worn when needed, but long guns aren't needed until they're needed. Believe me, if you tried to board a U.S. warship, the weapons will appear faster than you can board.

All I see in that picture is the green Linoleum tile floor! The same floor that was in every classroom at Horace Mann School!

I'd say the brass tags are, as already stated, ID tags. The padlocks do zero for security. Pull the trigger guard and assembly and remove the lock so it's out of your way

all the large ships had US Marines assigned that carried their own sidearms and rifles. Rifles assigned to a ship were used for guard duty, landing parties etc
