    Ford F30 30cwt truck questions!

I was speaking to a chap today who does odd jobs for my boss. He was asking me some advice about freeing off a motor that seem's to be seized during storage. (I'm a mechanic).
Turns out his vehicle is a GMC 6x6 truck; anyway that got me interested so he starts telling me about one of his relations that has a collection of vehicles that he needs to sell.
He showed me photos of a Ford F30 30cwt truck, it looks in pretty good nick, but has not run for 7 years. He has driven years ago; mentioning that the centre throttle caused a few scary moments.
I have no clue of market value for this type of vehicle; but it looks like a very good start for a project. What it be worth in good running condition, Can you get parts? I believe it's a side valve V8. It's currently in Franceicon, not too far from Paris I believe.
I gave him my e-mail so hopefully will get some photos soon.

Two different trucks. A 6x6 is a Deuce and a half and had a bunch of different engines. Mostly gas.
A Ford F30 30cwt is a Canadianicon Military Pattern(CMPicon) truck with a 239 cu in (3.9 L), 95 bhp (70.8 kW) V8 engine. No idea about parts in Franceicon, but a seized engine is a seized engine.
Try the Bovington Tank Museum for mire and likely better info. http://tankmuseum.org/home

Thank you Sunray. I had not thought about contacting Bovington. That's a good idea!
The GMC is not for sale; but need's sorting out the stuck engine. Will probably get the bore scope done the cylinders for a look before getting too involved.
The Ford F30 will be for sale; but i have not inspected it yet; just seen lots of photos. I suppose Canadaicon may be the best place for parts then.

Tank museum for a 30cwt truck........! I'd have thought that the Royal Logistic Corps museum would be the more likely. They were formerly the old Royal Army Service Corps and then the Royal Corps of Transport. Now all rolled into one and known as the RLC - or the Rather Large Corps

Is this a similar vehicle which I photographed at an event a couple of years ago or is it smaller?

Looks like that one; I believe the wheel base is similar. I'll chase up my friend for the photos.
Peter thanks for the info regarding the museum.

We had a RNZEME light recovery vehicle based on one of those (thread 5) while I was at the big Ordnance Depot in New Zealandicon in the late 60's. Never heard a quieter engine in my life. Ran like clockwork. A pleasure to take out.

Wasn't the Chevrolet truck made in Canadaicon at the same time almost identical with only a few different parts?

Now you mention it, it could have been a Chevvy. We also had 2x 6 wheeler recovery vehicles too because there was a heavy gun battery of 5.5" guns and Matadors under our wing too. I think that the two big 6 wheelers were the Chevvy's. All lend lease - as was the Fire Engine based at the Ord Depot that we had too. The RNZASC there had Bedfords, LR's and a solitary Jeep (or two?)

  12. Thank You to Peter Laidler For This Useful Post:

Here is another similar vehicle. I'm not so sure about the make of this one?
