    18 bore Scott Travelling Pistol

I recently purchased this nice old pistol from a family that dates back to the local gold rush of the 1860's. It is a good quality travelling pistol of 18 bore (.635") with Birmingham pre-1855 proof marks, and the name Scott on the lock plate. There are no other markings apart from the proof marks and 'Fine Wire' (indicating the method of twist steel barrel construction) on the underside of the barrel. Does anyone have information on Birmingham gunmakers named Scott in the pre-1855 period? I am wondering if it may be a product of one of the W & C Scott brothers before they became well known for their quality shotguns. This pistol is very well made, good quality engraving and platinum and gold inlays on the breech plug. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Never ceases to amaze me how they made these pieces all those years ago they were real craftsmen and artisans. Very nice pick up.
