USMC Chevrons - Size of Women's versus Men's?

OK, while I'm waiting for an answer on my button question (different thread), I've come up with another question. I've also acquired a sizable quantity of vintage USMC embroidered chevrons (pre-1985, I believe). They seem to cover all ranks and come in various sizes and colors. They came from an estate of a retired male Sgt. Major and a retired female Lt. Col (who started as an enlisted member). So I know there are both male and female versions mixed in all these chevrons.

What I'm wondering is, is there any easy way to determine which are the male chevrons and which are the female? I know the female versions are usually smaller. But aren't some male versions also small? Help! Please! Thanks!
