    Question on early handguard

When the 1903/05 rifles in 30-03 were modified to use the 30-06 caliber, stocks, barrels, sights and handguards were modified. The Springfield handguard was reduced in length by 0.2 inch and a small s was stamped on top. My photo shows a handguard with the small s stamp and rear sight groove but without clips

My question: were Rock Island handguards that were reduced in length by 0.2 inch
also stampedAttachment 87284 with the small s ?
