Military Parade With My Son (Beautiful Weekend)

For the longest time my Son has wanted to attend the Virginia Military Institute(VMI). He hopes to major in Biology, receive his commission and then serve his four year commitment in the Army. We headed over Thursday around 1300 and arrived about 3 hours later. Then entire time was beautiful fall weather with clear skies. Friday at 0800 he reported in and we attended classes on what the college offers and were able to meet with the department heads to get more information on all the majors and minors. That afternoon he was assigned to a first year cadet and was able to spend the night in barracks. He enjoyed it immensely hearing about the discipline, antics and so on. But prior to that was the full military parade where the entire school comes out. Approximately 1700 cadets formed into two battalions which equated to a regiment. With staff officers and the band. The band is broken down into traditional and a bagpipe section. Folks with all that is going on in the country now concerning flags, protests, and all the other garbage it was a wonderful feeling to stand there and watch this event. The unit formed up and marched out onto the parade field. The band and pipes where sounding off as they marched up as well. Then they proceeded to go through the manual of arms ending in fix bayonets. Weapon used is the US M14icon rifle. Once this was complete the regiment did a pass and review. Truly a unique experience which Ed and I enjoy every time we see it.
