An ex Royal Navy 1907 Bayo for sale.

I came across this 1907 bayonet for sale which, according to the advent is ex Royal Navy. Unfortunately my pockets are not deep enough to afford the price being asked for this. The vendor appears not to have skimped with their description of the bayonet. I wondered what others thought of this one, good or bad, please? Perhaps, a good idea to sit down before looking at the price?

Personally I don't get what having an ex Royal Navy bayonet warrants paying a premium for on the collector's market.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. J.A.C ~James Arthur Chapman one of the makers that did not produce a great abundance of the '07's they later became just Chapman they were roughly stamped in about equal quantities but sources indicate that the J.A.C stamped ones are the rarer commanding a slightly higher price total WWI production figures are around 300,000 units.

Even with the frog/helve carrier its not worth the asking price I think in @1997 I procured a 1916 J.A.C for $100/Au

What about the claim by the vendor of it originally being a hooked quillion example with a 1915 date stamped on it; would this be correct for 1915? Or is the vendor suggesting that the bayonet was made pre WW1 and perhaps reissued in 1915???

I have 2x 1918 examples with, as you say just Chapman marked on the blade.

I believe that this might be one of them dealers who's descriptions are possibly best taken with a pinch of salt if the tales about them are true...

Have a read all about them here...
