    Red deer or "Hirsch" in Germanicon were pretty abundant around Grafenwöhr. But it was the wild boars that had GI scrambling to climb up on anything to get away from them.

    My first time out was 1981 last was 94. So you guys had me by 10 years but trust me it didn't change any. Your right about those boar too and they would pop on you at the worst time like answering natures call

    You probably did KP on occasion so you saw them...

    Looking at the wear pattern at the front end of the handle, it looks like they were stored in a rack like we had, at the table ends...the blade went down and it hung there promoting the wear at the front tip.

    Definitely knives from the first cook's set. The company level mess section was expected to be to prepare bulk Class "A" rations from local procurement. Often Beef and pork and other meats came whole and had to be butchered and prepared by the company level mess section.
