    Fitting a Swedish Stock

    Hello all!

I just picked up an old Swede, all matching in excellent condition- except the stock. The stock and hand guard match the rifle so I didn't want to refinish them. I bought a stock set from Sarco and everything fits great save for some minor needed tang and barrel channel relief. My problem is the stock and hand guard I received were not matched to each other so the hand guard was a bit proud on the sides and the step for the rear band doesn't line up with the stock's step. What's the best way (and tools to use) to remove this wood evenly and have it line up straight with the stock? My goal is to line the "steps" up and not remove wood under were the band would rest.

I added a photo to help illustrate.

    Thanks in advance!

A cheap file set from Home owner Harry's or Mo's discount emporium is all you need. Should come with a four sided wood rasp too, don't bother with the course sides.
Remove unwanted wood with the rasp. Go with the grain.
Draw file to remove unwanted rasp marks.
    oil.
    Easy!!!

    Forgot,
For the band bit, use a chisel. Mark your line, score it, cut from the front. Keep working down until it's a nice and flush lip.
    Even easier!!!

I use the blue painters tape on the stock . File the handguard in place until you touch the tape . Remove the tape & handguard & file to fit off the rifle .

    Oops! Thought I hit "submit"...

I know this is older, but thanks for all the info. The chisel worked like a charm!
