This is a crosspost from CGN, but here's the 1944 Winchester carbine I picked up this weekend.

Had three new carbines waiting for me when I got home from the Domincan.

'44 Tula M44, wartime Beech laminate stock, hex receiver.

'45 Izhevsk M44, laminate stock, DDR property marked.

    '44 Izhevsk M38, wartime hardwood M38 stock.

I'm very pleased with them all. All have very good to excellent bores and should be great shooters too.

Thanks to Jean at P&S for the Tula, and to Anthony at TradeEx for digging through his rifles to pick the two Izhevsks out for me.

    Great service from both dealers.

My job's okay but my wife makes more than me. The carbines came out of my carefully saved allowance. Good thing they're relatively cheap to buy or I might have missed out on some good ones. With any luck I can scrape up the cash for a Glock 17 this summer. My interests are kinda all over the place.

I intend to educate my IDPA buddies with an all MN carbine shoot this summer. We'll se how the tough guys do with a little recoil.

If only I didn't have 28 years till retirement......I'd nip on over to Alberta and bring my 7 MN carbines with me. I can blaze away with those things, until the hot brass is waist deep.

You're welcome to come to our range anytime, Bramel. 500m and I'm usually the only one there.

Around here, if it hasn't been broken for farmland or logged, it's bush. Did I mention it's built in a muskeg swamp?
