    1903 Springfield extractor

When looking at 1903 Extractors online some say 1903 other say 1903A3 o is there a difference between these extractors and or the bolt bodies?

I don't think thier is a difference but not sure after looking around at all the different descriptions.

    Thanks in advance

Either will work on any 1903 or 1903A3 bolts. the only difference is the 1903 extractors have a hole drill in it for gas escape from the receiver/chamber in case of rupture case. You will only need a extractor with a hole if your rifle only have the gas escape hole on the right side.

    Owen,

Thanks for the help and clearing that up for me. So I'm guessing that if a early 1903 were used in WWII then a broken extractor with hold would have been replace with one without a hole?

You can get away using a extractor without a hole if your rifle has the left side gas escape hole (Hatcher Hole) as well in the receiver. As for WWII, companies under contract made both extractors up to the end of hostilities.

The bolt bodies are slightly different, 1903s have a straight bolt and 1903A3 they are a little swept back.

Early 1903 bolts have straight bolt handles, but those made starting circa late 1918/early 1919 had swept back handles similar to the M1903a3.

Mine is much newer than 1919. The extractor looks a little worn but is okay. Just wanted to get some spares so I have them if it decides to retire on me.

    Thanks for the help

    Thanks M1903, I stand corrected.
