    Universal carrier books and drawings

Does anyone know a good source of Drawings/blueprints of the Universal carriers (The Bren Gun Carrier)

I've been looking for the plans for the hull with sizes and gauge of the steel etc,

I,ve seen 3 books by Nigel Watson and the 3rd Volume looks like it has what I'm looking for just wonder if anyone has the book and if it has the detailed plans of the hull.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. This is about as comprehensive as I've seen. Don't recall ever seeing any books about the Universal alone though.

Hi Bigduke - what would you like to achieve with the info? Model one, reproduce or repair one? I have access to a Canadianicon Mk2 and a Britt Mk1 where I could shoot you photos and dimensions a-la cart if that helps.

Thanks or the offer, I've a drawing on the way of the original carrier, plus will be going to see a few that are for sale. Looking at how simple it is I was looking to see if its feasible to build one.......be a looonnnngggg time before anything happens but thought I'd check it out and compare it to the price of an original one. I've access to an industrial plasma cutter so all the hull could be done very cheap, the later ones were welded so another bonus.

Geoff, have you heard of Kevin Powles? I think he’s over in Norfolk. He has carriers and imports a lot of stuff. He also makes lots of parts to and borrowed my Boys ATR to make copies of.

He’s on HMVF. I’ll pm his email add

Quite a feasible project, tracks and wheels would most probably be tricky. I you make one, i wouldn't mind buying plans for one.

It would be a long way off......if I ever did embark on such a project, just searching etc regarding the feasibility, wheels pop up in all places, but would probably be cheaper to get a batch cast from an original the same with the track, I know of some wheels but they are £50 a wheel and need re bushing and new rubber, depending on the model either 4 or 5 wheels plus spare adds up, plus was offered a nearly complete one for £15000......

Am sure some form of modern track from small excavators etc could be used.
