M1D Cheek Pad real or fake?! Help please!!!!

I purchased a M1D cheek pad on Gunbroker and it was advertised as NOS. It has the 3 grey felt odd but someone told me it should have a triangle stitch at each end. Can anyone tell me if some original manufacturers did not do the triangle stitch??? Attached is a picture.

See, to me that one looks original, don't know about any triangle stitch. The date stamp makes sense and the mildew resistant marking is correct. We had a scad of them ordered by accident back in about 1990 in Canadaicon and they were thought to be a cheek rest for the new C7(M16A2) rifles...they all looked like that. There's verdigris in the brass and that can't be manufactured, and should be tended to soonest by the way.
    Regards, Jim

I agree with BAR. I have them on both M1C and M1D rifles and they look identical.

I have seen many nicely made, fakes and this one is one of nice ones . I have 4 originals 2 made in the 1950's and 2 made in the 1960's all have the triangle stitching . The triangle stitch was used to lock the treads from pulling loose as requested by the military spec's .

I stand corrected. I just looked at my two, both on legit DCM/CMPicon purchase rifles and they both have the triangle stitching where the thread stops.

It does look to be double stitched at the ends and high quality for a repop.

I spoke with someone who deals in older firearms and personally has 10 M1D's. I called him and he said that not all USGI made cheek pads had the triangle stitch so I sent him some pictures and I am waiting to hear back.

So here we have the classic, yes it is, no it isn't... How do you manufacture the verdigris on the brass? I still think it's original. They were made by more than one manufacturer...and the triangle stitch probably isn't in the drawing. Just a nice touch...yes, the triangle stitch is obvious when present.
    Regards, Jim
