    A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered.     The "tank" in this image was one of the M36 tank destroyer series, probably a 90mm Gun Motor Carriage M36B1. The exact model is obscured by the personal equipment attached to the open top gun shield.

    As to what is happening apparently the photographer was unaware or unconcerned of the "action" happening behind him, and that you're reading into this image.

    Maybe he's behind the next forward (tank)...? I think we're reading the body language of the medic correctly. Combat photogs are just that, under fire too...
