Here is one for you Charlie.

I just picked up three stocks and one of them happened to be a war time replacement made by Robert Irwin and so marked IR in the sling well with the ordnance bomb stamp.
But this had to have been on an import carbine as it is stamped on the upper left side of the stock with "us 119046 mc" The condition of the stock is pretty good and off hand I would guess it was on a return from Israel. Now what do you think the US and the MC would stand for???????? The letters are much smaller in size then the numbers.

Be nice to get some input from fellow member TENNOC, he knows a lot about the serial numbered stocks that came back.

    Questions:
1- Height of the numbers stamped?
2- Any paint or trace of paint in those letters and numbers?
3- Does it look like the picture below?

Don't bet the Farm... But.. IIRC... The space between the first 3 or 4 numbers before the last numbers were often a style seen by Israel. But not positive, could have been the Greeks, But I lean toward Israel.

The US and MC, I'm not sure. If they haven't been 'Added' they might stand for a Israeli Civil Guard. But honestly I don't recall seeing letters with the serial number stamps before.

I see the traces of white paint and the numbers look like Israel's to me. Too tired to go look, but that's an Inland s/n isn't it? No idea about the "us" or "mc" but to me it looks like the "us" might have been stamped at a different time than the s/n. - Bob

Charlie, Just where did you get this photo from? I am pretty sure the numbers are Israeli but I really wonder about the US and the MC. I think they were added later on to make the stock look more attractive to an unknowing buyer. I can almost hear the seller saying the USMC stands for the US Marine Corp.

Thanks JimF for rotating the picture, I don't know how to do that.

    Hi Bruce,
I let myself in, didn't want to wake you, plus didn't think you'd mind... You really outta replace the lock on your back door...

Questions: Does the stock still have a painted black buttplate on it ?
This is important: Look very closely for any black paint chips inside the stocks' interior.
Are the 2-3 small dimples still there on the left side where we'd expect to see a Armory Inspection stamp.... ?
These dimples would be positioned up on the left side about halfway between the bottom recoil plate escutheon nut and rear of trigger housing ?

    Cheers,
    Charlie-Painter777

P.S. Thanks for the sandwich..... OH and here's a Comp Pic of IMR's Israeli return:

Charlie, The wife said you can come back anytime. That's fine with me as it take a load off my shoulders. As to dimples on the left side. There are none and there is no black paint chips inside. The only black inside if typical carbine from firing. There is a 10 on the bottom of the grip but not where it would be a rake number as it's upside down. Butt plate doesn't appear to have any paint on it but it is a bit beat.

    Date of Post 2- 20 - 2017

Here is where I found it.
I believe A 6 digit Inland, because the OP say's it's early. But Bubba decided to spray paint the metal.... He might have also added the US MC markings while at it.

The picture showing the left side of the receiver ring when blown up 'Might' show a S just above the wood line. The S may be part of a Importers stamp/marking... but very hard to see.

I believe Israeli . The Greek returns I remember had smaller size letters and were stamped between the sling cut out and butt plate, also being on the left side. Korean stocks I have are painted numbers, some with taped on tags written in Korean, but none of mine are stamped numbers. Just going by memory and what I've dug up lately, notes are packed away while she makes the house Christmassssy. She doesn't like my bandoleer tree decorations !!

I have (2) stocks returned from Israel. Both have the 10 on the bottom of the grip and a small 50 (upside down) stamped into the wood about 1/2" - 3/4" of an inch to the left of the recoil plate. I believe Frank mentioned having one with the same 50 on it. - Bob
