I ran across an older post showing how you pushed your rear sight over... to equal the windage adjustment range. And I noticed the 2 spacers that go inside the sights' side base walls to protect from crushing them in.
Couple questions.... Did the 2 little spacers on either side of your sights' elevator come with the tool ?
If not.... Did you make them ? If so from what ? To refresh your memory, here's your tool in action:
I have a R and R tool for rear sights that came with a little bridge that sets over the peep, to keep from caving in the sides. It worked very well on a Type II milled rear sight I removed from a import carbine a friend bought.
But now I'm just wondering how well this set up will work on a Type I Leaf Flip sight.
I'm finally at the point to finish up my ROCK-OLA that I'm ashamed to say has taken me years to gather the correct/original parts for, let alone what I paid for these parts. Needless to say I don't want to ruin a real RMC flip. The original RMC Flip sight is still on it, so I guess I could see how well it comes off. No choice I have to pull it off, after years of looking I couldn't find just the peep (which has been notched on both peeps), it was worth a try to find a beat to hell base from using big brass..etc drifts and pulling the leafs and spring off, but no luck.....
Has anyone used this Matrix tool on a Flip sight either installing or removing, with no damage... aka like bending in the side walls ?

Greetings Charlie! Got our first snow last night and waiting for it to melt off, so we can run into town and get a few things. We usually shop on Sunday, but freezing rain and more snow is in the forecast. I got that rear sight tool from Nick several years ago, and have only used it on that one Inland with the Type II. Those (2) spacers aren't really there. You're just looking at the top of the ("Bubba'd") sight base. The "pusher" on this tool contacts low enough on the sight that I wasn't worried about bending the sides. When the Matrix tool came out, I bought just the spacer (like yours) to use in case I work on a Type III. If the "pusher" on your Matrix contacts really low on the base, I doubt you'd hurt a Type I with it. The pusher on the one I have just barely clears the bottom of the receiver cut. I don't know what that nylon tip will do when you put a lot of pressure on it, though. - Bob

I like your adding the card stock for some extra protection against marring.
We had about a foot of snow that mostly melted away. Wife had to shovel it (twice) my shoulders are giving me trouble. Now getting pretty cold with a good chance of snow Sunday. Off to pick up my Daughter and Grandson from the airport later this evening. So projects on hold until after the Holidays.
Will be auctioning off parts for a friend soon. Have a nice WRA Spring tube receiver I guess I'll have to list on GB. He paid too much at a estate auction for it. Had a Import marked barrel (RMC) with a badly cracked gas cylinder. He was the one who (after I removed it) bent the barrel over his knee. Bent it in to a perfect U shape. Walked out with it P!ssed off. I wanted it..... thought it would look neat hung up. Like a carbine that shoots around the corner !!
I have used the same matrix rear sight tool with no problems when removing and installing a flip sight. Put a thin piece of wood or plastic between the nylon tip and the side of the flip sight so the nylon tip doesn't rub the finish on the flip as it spins.

I just cut out a few pieces off Bondo applicators that fit nicely.
I also just test fit the tool and can see it will contact the side of the sight bases' low enough to just clear the receiver groove that the sight bottom slides thru.
Anxious to give it a go, but gonna have to stay the course (laid out by the Wife) and head out in a bit down to the Airport. 240 mile round trip thru holiday traffic. Thankfully the roads are dry.

On the first "push" with mine, I just put the white lithium grease on the tip hoping it wouldn't rotate. Didn't work - ended up learning how to clean smears of brass off the parked finish. It's a good idea to put some lube on the threads, though. Learned that while working in the shop and finding gear and bearing pullers with galled threads because somebody before me had used them dry. It started snowing here yesterday around 15:00 and gave us a white Christmas. I took a picture about an hour into it before it got dark. Then again a few minutes ago. But it's warm at 34 degrees.
