I just noticed criterion lists a .308 barrel for the M1917, would I be able to use this barrel on my action with an m1917 extractor? Then have the chamber reamed for .300 Win Mag?

That may be a decent solution to my problems, I'll make a couple calls and get a quote for barrel install/headspace tomorrow. I also plan to have the barrel shortened to 20", a short rifle is a handy rifle! It'll also be a bloody loud rifle, but, that's not a bad thing for what I plan to do with it.

I have a couple .300 win mag dummies on hand, they snap right in to the extractor and sit on the bolt face like they were made for it, just like everyone says. I have read that the p14 extractor will interfere with the m17 barrel, so one can either have a bigger relief cut, or just use the m17 extractor on the p14 bolt.

Good afternoon gents, so I haven't done much with this rifle lately, but I have been thinking about it. Now, seeing as the barrel is pretty well hashed, I'd like to experiment a bit and shorten it some. Now as far as shortening and re crowning, I think I have that covered. However, I'd like to re-use the existing front sight, any tips for me?

How are they installed in the first place? This one has a Lyman front sight (not redfield as I first thought) and as far as I can tell, it's pressed on to the barrel.

Also, will the front sight post need to come up or down to compensate for the change in length? Is there a way to calculate how much it will need to be changed?
