New 1903A3 - Would appreciate your knowledge/input on the rifle

Hi Folks - I'm new to the forum and just picked up my first 1903A3 and would love to have you experts tell me what you can about it? I think it's pretty clear the stock as been sanded and re-stained because it's way too smooth and the stamps have clearly lost some of their edge.

With that said I'd love to get your thoughts on this history of this particular rifle and how correct it is (I wouldn't know a Remington part from a SC at this point).

I was also surprised at the site picture with the hood on there - the front post almost touches the site hood - is this normal? Thanks very much!

    Scott

As far as the sight hood goes, it is normal for the hood to be quite close to the sight blade. most people will remove the hood while shooting, to get a better sight picture. I believe the Marine Corp, used a larger sight hood that allowed you to shoot with the hood still on. You may still be able to find a replacement USMC hood, but it may be somewhat expensive.

I also think I heard of someone who re-creates the USMC hoods, but I don't know if they are still available new.

Like Flintlock said the sight guard will have to come off to shoot well.

I know that this is a semi-old post, but that looks like a Kerr "NoBuckl" sling. If it's original, it's worth some $$$.

I hope NDVermin is still watching these thread. Look like a nice rifle, by those pictures provided it does look authentic. By serial# was produce in Sept 43. barrel only off by 3 mouths so possible original. If someone did sand the stock they did with some restraint. (IMO)
