Question Schuster High Volume Gas Plug

So I posted this on another board and didn't get an on topic answer answer. I am wondering if anyone here has used the (new to me) Schuster High Volume gas Plug? This is NOT the adjustable one (I have one of those and it works but this looks like it would be a lot simpler to use). The ad say that it will work with M2 ammo and "all commercial ammo" as it increased the volume in the gas cylinder by 60%. No allen wrenches, no double lock set screws and the ad says it is legal in some matches(not that that is important as I have a match built rifle for NRA and several rifles for CMPicon use). So back to the question. Does any one here have one of these and does it work as advertised? Thanks GB

    So?

As an editor, I'm wondering about the current fad of beginning sentences with "so." I see it all over TV, especially when answering a question. Can you tell me why you began your post with So instead of just starting the sentence? Is "so" the new "like?"

Found this review on another fourm

I have used the Schuster Overbored Non-Adjustable Gas Plug on both 30.06 and .308 Garandicon Rifles. They will work fine for their intended purpose, a little piece of mind when shooting unknown velocity ammunition, aka, Commercial Hunting rounds.

For example: PPU Garand Safe 30.06 150 grain FMJ Ammo runs about 2700 feet per second, PPU 30.06 150 grain Soft Point ammo runs a little over 2900 feet per second. Will the difference in velocities damage a M-1 Garand? Beats me, but some do not wish to take the chance.

I will tell you that recently I ran a little experiment with HXP and the over bored plug in a 30.06 Garand, with the plug in, the rounds printed a little lower than when I used a regular gas plug.

There are a lot of folks who will argue that the regular gas plug is all you need. They are probably right in regards to the .308 Garands, but again I do not see the harm in having an extra tool in the tool box for specific circumstances. I usually leave the regular gas plug installed on my Garands, and keep the over bored, non-adjustable plug in the butt stock in case I need it.

BTW, I believe the over bored, non-adjustable gas plugs cost me about $20.00 each from Creedmoor.

First, thank you to Mark for the answer to my question. Just the information I was seeking!

Second, Mr. Seijasicon: I have thought about your comment about my use of the "So". You are correct in that it was not proper usage. As I have enjoyed your comments and learned a great deal from you about Garands, on this and at least one other forum, for many years, I will refrain from continuing a discussion on usage of slang.(I am outclassed and I know it.) It is, after all, a place to talk about guns.

We had a company safety guy we were required to listen to every month that started and ended every sentence with NA. I knew it was his way of gathering his thoughts for his next idiotic statement. I told him after his very first required meeting during overtime that he had managed to waste my time and a lot of the company's money. They eventually sent him to classes to learn how to speak in public. He eventually got it down to 50 or 60 NA's during a 40 minute meeting instead of the high of 235. I counted.

The doctor who gave the news conference about Pres. Trump's physical used "y'know" incessantly, even as high as six times in a single sentence. All of these fillers (um, er, y'know) are unconscious attempts to say, "Don't stop listening, I'm still talking."

It also is a a sign of an uneducated or ignorant mind. It's akin to the excessive use of the F-bomb because one is too unlearned or ignorant to know the proper qualifier needed.

Unless, of course, that is the correct qualifier. This is sometimes the case. Ever change the rear spark plugs on a '99 Oldsmobile Intrigue?

To get back on topic, I have one of these installed on my Garandicon. Partially because I like fiddling with my guns and partially because it's cheap insurance. So, why not?

"So why not" is correct usage of it... use as a synonym for "therefore" or "because" or "in order to" is legitimate and useful. So there!
