RESO I/II (Reserve Entry Scheme Officer) 1990

I find it hard to believe that 28 years ago I was a 19 year old officer cadet on basic armoured officer training at Canadianicon Forces Base Gagetown in New Brunswich.

One of the attendees was our current Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan. He's easy to spot in the middle. I'm fifth from the left under the muzzle of the Sherman.

One of my clear recollections was of the DS (directional staff a.k.a. drill sergeants) popping CS tear gas grenades when we were eating lunch in the field. Sajjan was at a severe disadvantage, because he had to don a scuba hood before he put on his gas mask. I swear they did it for a laugh as Sajjan always got a lungful before he could get his mask on.

PS: Note the 1987 Diemaco made C7 rifle and Thermold magazines.

Why are you all wearing the Navy's beret....

Just kidding nice looking C7 though, I would argue better than the current C7A2s. Lighter, almost as handy, sights are easier to maintain zeroed, can carry the cleaning kit in the buttstock. At least they had a plan with that rifle, instead of the 10.5lb unbalanced monstrosity they have at the moment.

Armour had black berets LONG before the Navy did....just sayin.

I agree with your C7 comments. That is why I built C7 & C8 clones with original carry-handle uppers for my personal collection. They definitely follow the KISS rule.

I was TD there in '89 teaching and posted there in '93-'96...only know two of the senior NCOs in the seated bunch, the RCR third from the left and the Dragoon third from the right. Did RESO, Phase 2, Adv Pioneers, SAIC...and whatever came up.
    Regards, Jim
