SA SPG cartouche on a 1903/a3 C stock?

Would an SA SPG cartouche be correct to find on a C stock for the 1903/a3?

Seems to be the only marking other than the P on pg.

Yes, for a pre war C stock, which are sought after for good close grain and slimmer grip area.

Might be my faulty memory , but wasn't there an inspector SPG, Stanley P Gibbs ?

Thanks, and yes, not only do they seem sought after, but hard as hell to find....I have been looking for a pre war C stock for quite some time without luck....picked up a Northridge Int C stock, and while nice wood, is a bit fat...

Not all SA SPG stamps are the same, early pre war SA SPG had the almost square box with tall narrow letters which latter changed to the rounded corners on the box with shorter letters. The late post war (1947-1951) SA SPG stamp has the short fat letters with round corners on the box, the late stamp can be found on both M1 Rifle and M1 Carbine rebuilds. Not common to find on 1903A3 stocks, most common for these stocks are the SA GAW and the rebuild stamps with the SA in a partial box and a letter under

This was the cartouche in question. Was just wondering on it’s authencitiy. Saw it on eBay earlier. Auction is over now.

Interesting, thank you. I found quite a few photos of the SPG cartouche, but they seemed to be a different variation. Your photo is the first I’ve seen that looks identical. Of course, I am a novice here!

The letter G in S.P.G. is not original in both photos. I will look for and post some original SA SPG cartouche photos

Both of the above fat letter SPG's are fake rebuild period stamps. I am 100% sure they are both fake and the one I am showing is the real Rebuild fat letter SPG. Rick B
