Garand stock picked up a gun show

Picked up a garand SA GAW stock to go with my 1944 late receiver. I had a new CMPicon stock but did not look right all new and shining. So have been looking for a while. One question on the Cartouches. This one on the bottom of the pistol grip what is it fore/meaning?

Some other pics just for fun.

I know the SA GAW =Springfield Armory / George A. Woody
The cross cannon = ordnance acceptence?
    Circle P = proof shot.
Small ordnance with cannon on pistol grip =?

Makes the garand look so much better. I like the dings and nicks.

    Thanks

Am I the only one who thinks the GAW and Ordnance Wheel stamp look fake?

I hope for the OP's sake I'm wrong, but they just don't look right to me.

They are a bit crisp. Especially the one on the grip.
Call me a bit uncultured but I would definitely agree the Garandicon looks better than it would in a brand new stock. Even if the markings are fake.

    Looks good to me.

The tiny ordnance crossed cannons mark on the bottom flat of the pistol grip is an acceptance stamp for the stock that was used by Springfield Armory during most of WWII.

Looks like a super nice one to me. You did good with that and could easily get $350.00 for that stock. Rick Bicon

Thanks rick. Made money on that then. But Not in it for the money. Love the gun and the possibilities of where it may or may not have been.

So the cartouche on the bottom of the pistol grip. SA acceptance? Made by another Manufacture and then accepted by SA? Or made in SA and Accepted to go to production?

Good question. I didn't know SA used any contract stocks during WW2. Looking forward to an answer from someone.

The ordnance wheel on the bottom of the pistol grip signifies a stock accepted by SA made by someone other than SA.
