    I need a question answered

    mGood Evening All,

How could I tell someone to check a mk1 410 for une modified chamber.
Would a modern 410 shell tell me anything?
I want to direct the seller how to accomplish this by E Mail.

    Thanks for your info

If a modern 410 shell fits it’s been altered.

Original, unaltered muskets take a cartridge 2 inches long. 2 1/2 and 3 inch commercial will not fully chamber in the original musket.

"...the rifle was modified..." How? Sounds like you need to do a chamber cast to find out exactly what you have. A chamber cast is done with Cerrosafe and a cleaning rod with a bit of steel wool on it. Brownell's sells the Cerrosafe. Half pound runs $14.99. It's easier to do than it sounds too.

Modified how? Sunray, if a 2-1/2” or 3” modern .410 shell fits the chamber has been reamed to lengthen it. If it hasn’t been modified the shell will not go in all the way. The original .410” musket cartridge is 2-1/4” long. No need to waste effort on Cerrosafe.

    .410 No 1

    Hi again Guys,

    I checked with 2 1/2 & 3", oddly the 2 1/2' fit but the 3" doesn't.
They were Remington green ribbed plastic shells.
The original brass cartridge seems to have a lot of wiggle room when seated.
    Maybe Cerrosafe after all.

    Thanks for the help.
