    100th Birthday.......or Younger is Better.

Being the Australiaicon day Long Weekend, it was only fitting to take my 1918 Lithgows out for a run.
40+degree heat is no fun, but any excuse to get a round down range will do.

First to get a run was the eldest, a no suffix original barrel 1918 S/N 94810.
Not sure if the keyhole was the bad barrel or crook Milsurp ammo, there were a couple of click/bangs and only one keyhole in 10 shots.

Next in line was a A prefix 1918 S/N A1079, noticed the forewood was loose, bugger, will need to look at that.

Last cab off the rank was the youngest, a 1918 S/N A4908, it did the best out of the three, proving that the younger ones can outdo us old buggers.

Did have a couple of Enfield 18's, but they can wait, after all it was an Australia day shoot, and they are only bloody poms.

Darn I hadn't even thought of getting my Lithgowicon's out for a shoot. Maybe because I shot pretty average last time I used the one. Anyway, I love the three different colours of the stocks. I've seen the black ones, I own a red one, but I haven't seen a yellow one, and you have them all. What a nice collection. Also, am I too far off the mark thinking that the one farthest right has a longer butt-stock?

The bolts give it away, 3 separate butt lengths, 3 different timbers, bloody irritating when your cleaning as I use a knuckle or fingertip striking the butt to determine stroke.
Cleaning three separate lengths had me swearing when I pushed the rod too far had forgotten how hard these old buggers are to clean.

What a great set of Great War Lithgowicon's. I would happily give a home to any of them.

Walnut Andrew, I have four black ones and a 1915 in light walnut, they are all early Lithgows bar the '18.
They sit well with my Britishicon SMLE'S

Walnut on a 1918 Lithgowicon would be a bit of a rarity.

    Nice!

Is the muzzle on the left cord worn, or is it just photographed at a funny angle?
