    Arisaka type 99

I've had tis arisaka for a long time. It was passed down from my grandfather who fought in the Pacific theater in WWII on a destroyer. I don't know much about it. The mum is ground off, the front sight looks like it has a notch filed in it. Plus I have never seen one where the stock doesn't go almost to the end of the barrel. It looks like there are cut marks on the stock? It also has a bent bolt. I would just like to learn more about it if anyone can help me out. All input is greatly appreciated. Thank you I hope the pictures help

Your rifle has had the stock chopped and refinished , the bolt has been bent and the front sight ground on .

Your grandfather made a deer rifle out of it which was pretty common back then. As such it has very little monetary value. Just sentimental. They make great shooters, take it to the range and enjoy.

Altering the bolt for use with a scope and having the action drilled and tapped for a scope base can add up in a hurry and may be more than the you want to spend. You may be able to find a base for a long eye relief scope (think handgun scope) if one was made for this model rifle.

The bolt is already bent so I would just need to get it drilled and tapped?

Possibly yes but make sure the bolt is bent far enough to clear a scope. It doesn't look at tight as most bent down bolts look.

I "think" S&K up in PA made a bolt on scout mount for these - that would probably be the cheapest way to go......
