Just arrived N9 .22 trainer and some queries

    Hi Guys
After a considerable time struggling through a broken Firearms Certification process here in Northern Ireland in which I had to enlist the help of my local MP to get the system moving my Lee Enfield N9 .22 trainer has arrived.

I am quite happy with it but sadly someone has removed the N9 pattern sight and replaced it with a normal .303 unit. They then drilled and tapped the aperture so that they could fit a fixed PH aperture. Pity. Fortunately my 8/53 sight still fits. I do have a No8 rear sight unit but I wonder what are the chances of finding a proper N9 sight????

I haven't had it on the range yet but I have a couple of queries. First of all the serial number on the side does not match the number on the top (the bolt does match) and secondly what is going on with the N/I\Z marking and numbers on the base of the magazine case.

    Eddie

I'll bet if you place a WTB here you'll find the sight you seek... Nice catch too Eddie...

While not an expert on these I have A154. Mine had the rear sight replaced with a Canadianicon No 7 rear sight. I had thought about replacing it with the No 8 rear sight as well because I have been able to locate a No 9. Both sights seem to be one in same but as someone will point out I am sure they are not. I notice yours is an P-H 60 while mine is a P-H 56. Mine does not have a top receiver number only the side, bolt and forearm. Magazine is stamped .22 on side no other markings. These are a joy to shoot and very accurate. Is the muzzle stamped Parker Rifled?

    Hi and thanks

The sights on our two n9s are quite different (ignoring the eyepieces) The sight on mine is a standard .303 ladder to which I have attached a PH 8/53 after-market adapter which gives you windage adjustment. It appears to have Canadianicon markings and is presumably for the No7?

I wonder if anybody can say if your magazine is a standard item or an after-market add-on??

If just locked mine in the safe but I don't think it has a number on the fore-end - which presumably is a rack number?

    Eddie

What's the number...often they were the rifle number. Easier to read when locked in the rack.

Bruce's rifle is A134 and that number is repeated on the bottom of the fore-end.

The correct sight for this rifle as issued was the original No4 Mk1 graduated to 1300 yards but with a 25 yard mark in the left hand side and 25YDS inscribed on the side of the slider. See page 509 of Mr Skennertons wonderful book "The Lee Enfield" for a full description and picture...

Yes Sir now if only we both could find one for each rifle but I seriously doubt there are any out there. But then again stranger things have happened.
