    RCS,
With my very limited experience with the M1A1icon's, I'd expect yours to be legit.
I've been getting the bug for one but have never studied up on them..... time to learn.
These were cast, Right? And yours compared to the picture I linked sure looks cast.

    Thx

Charlie, It's a repo. The originals had the numbers and letters cast into the plate when it was made. It would start with the letter B and after the number the wagon wheel and finally a number between 1 and 12 that were the number of the mold used to cast the plate. Without these on it then it's not real. The one pictured has the number stamped into the plate.

Seen it on GB today at a shop about 1hr from here. Was tempted to drive up to see it Thursday since it isn't suppose to snow. But now see they have a bid on it. I'll link it here tomorrow.

Pretty easy to see that the one you posted is not real USGI.

My understanding is that other nations militaries contracted for local replacement parts for m1 carbines.

Could the original posters M1A1icon buttplate not be foreign military replacement (as opposed to commercial aftermarket)?

Charlie, is it me or does second number look like a 3 instead of a 5 like I see on the other plates shown?

I have seen them with a F in circle.
Looks nothing like what you show
    But also has a 5

It is a real butt plate, but is it from a government contract......

I see the stock has a AA ? Armory stamp on the right rear. The bottom of the Pistol grip is marked RI over 3.
The seller states: "We Believe It Was Arsenal Refurbished..." Along with stating: "The Stock Is A Rock Island Stock".
So I don't believe they're really sure of what they have. They must be mistakenly thinking the RI stamp on the Pistol Grip must mean it was a stock made by Rock Island. It does have the post WWII rebuild upgrades, to include a Springfield Type III Bayo lug (SA) rotary safety, rear adj sight.... among other mixed parts, etc.. To include the Butt plate picture I posted above.
With all this said, I'll assume this is a Post WWII US made Butt plate for replacement parts.

If anyone is interested here's a link to the auction's description and pictures:

At the time I posted about this I was tempted to drive up to see it, after seeing it was less than 2 hrs from home, it was going to be a NO SNOW DAY and knew of a few other gun shops I could visit in the area. But other things came up.

    FWIW,
    CH-P777

ps after figuring in traffic, it's more like 2 hrs
