    can anyone tell me what the thread size is on an smle firing pin where it screws into the cocking piece plz ?

    I have a substitute sizes which was put together by a chap with over 30 years exp working on these, they will work well but if your a purest as he says then you will have to source the correct tap/die.

    He suggests on the chart I have a .25 x 30 TPI (Tap & Die 1/4 x 30)**

    I think you mean BSB, not BSP that is Britishicon Standard Pipe and is pretty big.
    Both BSF(British Standard Fine) and BSB(British Standard Brass) are both 26TPI
