    ENGLAND stamp on Enfield Rifles.

Hi, does anyone in the forum know if the ENGLAND stamp on rifles that have been sent to the US had the stamp applied in the UKicon before export or was it applied when the rifles hit the US?

Good question. It was the required pre 1968 mark for import into the USAicon of firearms 'country of origin'. The mark may have been applied by the importer. I remember $7.98 No 1 Mk III .303 rifles stamped 'Englandicon' on the bottom of the stock.

It's not required here, but it might have been applied here by Interarms (etc.) as a matter of convenience before shipping them over there.

We sometimes see rifles with it on here, but they have been re-imported.
