New scoring system at Camp Perry 2010

Let me be the first to say I believe I am going to dislike this:
    http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules_i...l-sf-tgt-a.pdf

I got this in an eMail today because I have subscribed to the "NRA Competitive Shooting Programs" list.

Can anybody direct me to any discussion about the development of this?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Target Marking

The new, or alternate, system has been around for about two years.

There has been considerable discussion about it on the nationalmatch.com website. Log in there and do a search for the debate.

    High Power Scoring

They recently updated the site and changed its url to http://www.usrifleteams.com.

Once you are there you then click on forums and then national match.

My apologies, I forgot about the change.

Not really a new system...we have been using it locally for a the last 2 yrs. After about 10 mins with it, you will like it. Much easier on you when you got a shooter thats all over the target and easier if you got a shooter keeping you in the 10/X rings. And you never have to reach to the top of the target.

This is yet another preemptive strike by the new crop of Safety-Nazi's running NRA Comp! We seem to be be trying to make Highpower into the replacement for shuffleboard and Parcheesi at the Retirement Home ("I can't reach the top of the target no more!").

It's going to cause confusion, it's going to cause misscored targets, it's going to make challeges and protests ubiquitous....and it's going to slow things to a crawl as a result...all while being completely unnecessary! Nothing was broke, so why the hell does NRA need to "fix" it?

I heard the same stuff when we changed from paddles to the (now) "old" system. Even an FOF like me can be taught new tricks. :-)

Yeah.....but that was an IMPROVEMENT over what came before. This is what exactly....inquiring minds want to know?

Hate to say it, but I havent seen the confusion yet with the now not so new system. Vertically challenged folks certainly have it easier now. While I didnt have an issue as I am 6 foot, some folks did, especially with "high" carriers like we have at Butner.

Either way, I still like the system and even if I didnt, whining about it wont help much, just like the no more standing jazz. Hate that we had the change, but I am still going to shoot.

Not being argumentative John....but how many times have you had to "re-locate" the lower scoring-disk holes in targets at the Nationals because the line couldn't see the spotters in the "factory" locations due to weeds/sandbags/general geography....or the target has slipped down in the crane? I can't think of a target where I didn't, which is why my Leatherman is as important a shooting tool as my rifle!

I really hope I'm wrong and you guys are right......but, well.....I'm an old engineer that is still looking for a completely "idiot-proof" device or system, and know better than to change something that works without a damn-good reason.

NO ONE has articulated the "WHY" of any of this stupid gymkhana! No one asked any of us that I'm aware of....why all the opacity? Why the complete lack of any explanation? Why the "diktats"? And is CMPicon gonna play along (the hot rumors floating around Camp Perry regarding the start from standing is that they aren't!)
