New NRA scoring system at Camp Perry 2010

Let me be the first to say I believe I am going to dislike this:
    http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules_i...l-sf-tgt-a.pdf

I got this in an eMail today because I have subscribed to the "NRA Competitive Shooting Programs" list.

Can anybody direct me to any discussion about the development of this?

Seems like there could be some miss recorded scores due to the 5 & X scoring spotter being in the same location.
I'm sure that the reason to change was due to the difficulty in reaching the top of the target to put in the spotters.

The idealogs at NRA Competition have sure turned this sport upside down.

This new system is going to cause problems. You know, at times, it is very difficult to tell if you have a shot on the target. So I have any number of times pulled the target because I was certain I heard the shot or felt the shot. But, there was no shot. So I have cleaned the target and raised it without anything on the face.

Now, the shooter gets a big fat zero for that, or has to argue with the scorer or line offical.

As the link wont work for me, I went looking for info elsewhere. I cant seem to find the National Match website i used to visit. It cant be gone--it was a big viable website!! Anyhow, it sounds like they have made changes in order to keep hands below the burm.

    Slamfire,
If you mistakenly pull the target without a shot being fired the shooter will not get a zero. Under either system the result will be the same. You pulled the target, the shooter did not fire, no harm no foul. This new scoring system is being used at a few places here in Michigan and it does take some getting used to.
The biggest problem I have with it is when scoring the 600yd line. Now that the 10, 9, 8, and 7 are all scored across the bottom of the target you have to pay much more attantion to where the value disk is placed. I try now to always check where the shot spotter is then check the value disk. I can only imagine what Perry is going to be like in 2010 with many people not familiar with the new system.

Local ranges should be using the new system. We have been using it since it came out 2 yrs ago. it works well.

I have no idea how someone would mistake a 5 for an X, but I guess anything is possible!

Of all the changes we have had, I actually think this one is for the positive.

I normally stay out of these opinion exchanges, and don't mean to flame anybody, but you better pay strict attention to placement of the value disk compared to the spotting disk to ensure you get proper score. Pit crew will make mistakes (up or down). This is one reason you should be recording all your shots......

Also, as a comment, at a match yesterday I pulled target for a gentleman at 600 who couldn't decide between hitting the 7 ring or the X & 10 ring. It is tedious to move the value marker back and forth, up and down, in the old system. So that kinda changed my mind about the new system.

Now if you want to complain about the new system of staying down in the rapids, well it kind of cheapens the game in my opinion. Much too easy. Time should now be reduced to 50 and 60 seconds. But maybe that's just me. Opinions vary.
